Cultivating the Soil of the Heart

Written by Dean Mcquoid
Introduction
“But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart.”
(Matthew 15:18–19)
What We Cultivate Eventually Comes Out
Interesting that whatever we’re cultivating in our hearts will eventually be released through our words.
Those around us will either be blessed and are benefitted from the good that’s been cultivated (peace, love, truth, scripture, Your presence, faith, vision…) or are the recipients of what we’ve cultivated that is not good (bitterness, unforgiveness, hatred, distrust, cynicism, fear, anger, rage), it eventually comes out. It can be hidden for a while, but eventually it makes an entrance for good or for bad. The truth is we’re a mixed bag.
Cultivating a Heart That Brings Life
But if we want to be people that use our words to bring life, blessing, love, mercy, truth, grace, peace, fun, joy, the challenge then is that it must be cultivated in our hearts. It requires intention to fill our hearts with good things. To fill our hearts with Your Spirit. For the “fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, gentleness, faithfulness and self control.”
(Galatians 5:22–23)
Closing Prayer
Father, I know the truth is, the presence of Your Spirit, having a redeemed heart, surrendered to Your presence, Your love and will is the absolute only way to even want to have a heart filled with good things, let alone achieve it.
But the truth is “out of the heart the mouth speaks… for the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.”
(Luke 6:45)
